More than blue

            this is the great blue, 

                                    feathered blue, as if 

carrying the sky itself,

            as if each feather 

                        is transmitting ocean blue

from raggèd-wild seascape—

a ballet of blue ,           

            long-necked, long-leggèd, long-billed,  

 suspended —

This is the planet's blue now caught 

            in flight

                        in multiple hues.

Blue brushed into heron, 

            so those who have never seen

a great blue, can imagine 

                                    the earth itself

            turning itself 

into a celestial vault—

surely such blue is above

false promise, 

deceptions—

surely this blue confirms 

we have reason for reverence.
